Abhay lights a cigarette. The blues play on.
Mrinal travels to the coal mining town of Jharia, only to discover that the project is funded by a ruthless local mafia. The money he receives is "shelled out by a mafia who wants him to make a porn film!". As he is forced to complete the film within three days, the lines between cinema and crime blur, and Mrinal becomes entangled in a dangerous underworld, finding himself trapped until he can finish the project. To make matters worse, a young girl's body is discovered in the mines, pulling him into a deeper investigation.
The series was shot extensively on location. The visual palette is dominated by muted earth tones, black coal dust, and harsh, unglamorous lighting. The cinematography perfectly captures the stark contrast between the decaying heritage houses of Bengal and the raw, industrialized chaos of Jharkhand. Razor-Sharp Dialogue
The story follows (played brilliantly by Rajatava Dutta), a once-successful but now washed-up film director struggling with severe financial bankruptcy and professional irrelevance. Desperate for a comeback and a way out of his mounting debts, Mrinal receives a mysterious and highly lucrative offer from an enigmatic financier.
The success of Dhanbad Blues relies heavily on its ensemble cast, featuring some of the finest talents from the Bengali entertainment industry:
Season 1 is structured sequentially to show Mrinal's journey from a desperate Kolkata director to an armed pawn of the mafia. Dhanbad Blues (TV Series 2018) - IMDb
