BACnetPal is a lightweight, open-source Java-based BACnet/IP simulator designed specifically for creating multiple mock devices simultaneously.

In building automation systems (BAS), testing and verifying communication network setups is critical. BACnet (Building Automation and Control networks) stands as the industry-standard protocol for HVAC, lighting, and security systems.

: Evaluate how your network handles traffic from multiple virtual devices.

Troubleshooting and Testing with Free BACnet/IP Device Simulators

Because BACnet uses raw UDP broadcast traffic for device discovery, the Windows Defender Firewall frequently blocks incoming Who-Is commands. Create an explicit inbound rule allowing UDP port 47808, or temporarily disable the firewall on private test networks.

Ensure the computer hosting the simulation is on a standard IP network. BACnet/IP relies on UDP broadcasts. You may need to temporarily disable Windows Firewall (or create an inbound rule for UDP port 47808) to allow device discovery.

Select an Analog Value object from the discovered device tree. Read its Present_Value attribute. Next, attempt a WriteProperty command to change the value. Verify that the simulator updates its internal state to match your command. Common Troubleshooting Tips
